The Ladder Project is a Community Interested Company (CIC) that helps holistically develop students in Years 9 and 10. Our mission is to ensure that all students leaving school are equipped with the skills required to succeed in the world of work and in higher education.
In 2017, 794,000 British young people were not in education, employment or training. HESA showed that students are dropping out of university as they lack the basic skills to survive. We have recognised that there is a skills gap that disproportionately affects students from lower socioeconomic and BAME communities. This has only been widened by the COVID-19 pandemic.
We have put together a programme comprising of different workshops to help students to learn skills that will better prepare for higher education and the world of work. To offset the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have expanded our services to provide virtual masterclasses in the core subjects - Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and English. During the summer, we provided over 75 hours of free tuition to 36 students.
We have been in operation for a year, and in that time we have run programmes for over 500 students and partnered with 4 different organisations. 97% of students increased their skillset as a result of our programme and 90% of students felt more confident about their future after finishing school.
